To Be Alive

The longest story
The darkest night
The most painful sacrifice
The hardest fight

The most beautiful gift
The most freeing grace
The most monumental opportunity
The most pleasant taste

The most trying trial
The best reward
The bloodiest wound
The best in store

Full of love
Full of hate
Always too early
Always too late

Coming undone
Coming together
Never alone
Alone forever

Finding yourself
Losing who you are
Going the distance
Never getting far

To wound
To heal
To be numb
To feel

To die
To strive
To be alive

With the Sun Always Come Shadows

It's warm enough I do suppose.
The light is bright as brightness goes.
I'm alive and that's alright.
I suppose I'll be so through another night.
A new road stretches forth before me,
A new chapter waiting to be.
A new adventure waiting to start,
But why can't this sun warm my cold heart?
I am thankful for the sun's shinning
And this new start, this silver lining.
What hinders me from this road
Is something in the darkness of my mind that glows,
Something else the sun reveals.
Something that will never heal.
With the sun always come the shadows real.
The shadows of the past at our doorsteps kneel.
Though, the sun is bright and full of hope
With these shadows I cannot cope.
I wish I could go on, I really do.
I wish to leave this all behind and find something new.
But with the sun, shadows always come.
Sometimes few, sometimes many, but always some.
Close your eyes. Do not see the gray.
Where is our hope for a new and brighter day?
